I earned an MA in Art Education from Western Washington University, along with an MA in Literature, and taught college Composition in both Art and English programs, as well as English as a Second Language, for 12 years before coming to Paly. My passion is empowering visual and written literacy through the Visual and Language Arts – combining text and images to express ideas, emotions, and personal stories and observations about our world. I teach Photography, AP Studio Art, and Yearbook classes. We initiated the first Arts magazine for PAUSD, titled [proof], which won a Columbia Student Press Crown award with it’s first issue. The success of our program rests with the amazing talents of our students and the exceptional support of our parent network. The Photography program hosts the annual “What Matters” Photojournalism Forum” bringing international photographers, like Ed Kashi, to provide a Common Core model of professional practice. We actively promote student participation in the national Scholastic Arts and Writing competition, with 4 students from the Paly Photography program being selected for national Silver and Gold Medals.
